Anthony
Balaskas: Special Assistant
ANTONIOS
BALASKAS was born in Five Churches, Thesprotia, Greece.
He
holds a M.Sc Degree in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability
received with distinction from Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden.
While
his post-secondary education began in the former Yugoslavia (Croatia
and Bosnia Herzegovina), they were cut short by the war. He was forced
to completed his bachelor studies in Thessaloniki, Greece where he
graduated with a bachelors' degree from the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki, Department of Physical Education and Sport Science.
Antonios
Balaskas is as an expert in humanitarian aid and development
cooperation particularly in post-conflict areas like the Balkans and the
Middle East, having garnered over a decade of professional experience
doing such work in these regions.
Antonios Balaskas actively promotes
the need for systemic thinking and holistic approaches, rather than
short-sighted policies and practices. Multidimensional strategies
focussed on collaboration and innovation, in which all stakeholders have
a role, is at the core of his approach, which emphasizes progress
towards social and environmental sustainability.
Following the
completion of his studies in Sweden (2009), Antonios has been and is
applying his knowledge and practices in Greece and Balkan region. He is
also working in the humanitarian and development field in the design and
evaluation of sustainable strategies, practices, programs and
activities in developing countries.
Since February 2010, Balaskas has
occupied a place as a specialized member of the international ngo
PLATEAU, taking part actively in strategic planning and development.
